Easter Treats!

I hope everyone had a good weekend! MH and I had a great time celebrating the Easter holiday with family and friends and had fun making treats to share...

Lemon Green Beans

 Rainbow Jello

 Italian Herb Boules

 Citrus Salad with Mint

 Brussel Sprouts with Bacon

To no surprise, the rainbow jello was the biggest hit. It took forever to make though so I don't think we will be making it again anytime soon. Each layer has to be made and set individually and we found that all shortcuts end in disaster.

French Bread From A Vending Machine

Last week, the Associated Press shed light on a 24-hour vending machine in France that sells baguettes! You can read about it HERE and watch a video to see how it works HERE. I hope they make it over to the states. They are too cool!

The Victory Knot Victory

There is something so wrong but so right about a pretzel bigger than your face. Dodgers Stadium added the Victory Knot to their menu this year. The Victory Knot is a 2 lb pretzel that comes with 3 dipping sauces (beer cheese, spicy mustard, and a cinnamon icing). It is so big, it comes in a pizza box.

Here is our progress after a few innings...

Alas, even with four of us doing our finest, the final score = Us: 0, Victory Knot: 1.

Go Dodgers! Way to beat the Tigers 4-1!

Mostly Pretzel Buns And Some Pretzels

Pretzels are fantastic. They are great for snacks and MH says they are great for breakfast too. The Joy of Cooking has a simple recipe that doesn't require anything out of the norm from your kitchen/pantry. I split the batch to make salted pretzels and cinnamon sugar pretzels.

Clearly, I am not the best pretzel maker. Most of them turned into pretzel buns instead of pretzels. I should have rolled out the dough into longer strips to give the dough more space to rise without impeding the classic pretzel shape. Good to know for next time I guess.

These pretzels definitely weren't the best I have ever had. Auntie Anne's and the Amish pretzels at the Philadelphia Reading Terminal Market are better without a doubt, but I think they give Wetzel's Pretzels a good run for their money. Nevertheless, pretzels are another thing I can check off of my list and say I made from scratch.
